PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee said representatives of Rhode Island’s Greek Orthodox churches and members of the Greek American community celebrated the 204th anniversary of Greek Independence Day at the Rhode Island State House Tuesday afternoon.

McKee said the celebration began with a Senate resolution honoring the anniversary of Greek Independence Day, which marks the start of the War of Greek Independence in 1821.

The Senate session was followed with Greek dignitaries, Rhode Island general officers, and members of Rhode Island’s Greek community celebrating the day in the State Room.

“Our state’s vibrant Greek community continues to thrive, bringing rich traditions, culture, and a strong sense of unity,” McKee said.

Greek Independence Day is celebrated every March 25.
