Man dies in a federal prison in Mississippi. Here's what we know

A man incarcerated at a federal prison in Mississippi died Sunday, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Christopher Eric Shoemake, 53, was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday morning at the Federal Correctional Institute Yazoo City, according to a news report in the Yazoo Herald.

He was pronounced dead on Sunday at the medium-security facility, according to the Bureau of Prisons inmate roster.

He initially pleaded guilty to attempted manufacture of methamphetamine in April 2013 in Missouri. He was sentenced to 12½ years in prison with three years of supervised release.

After Shoemake was released from prison, he admitted he violated the terms of his release and was sentenced in October 2024 to one year plus one day in a federal facility after his supervised release was revoked.

Shoemake had been in custody at FCI Yazoo City Medium since Feb. 26 according to a report on WJTV.
