Martin Aquatic Design & Engineering, a world-class aquatic firm, has had its recent work at a prestigious resort complex recognised with a top design accolade. Following the firm’s poolscape work at Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort of Naples in Florida, US, Martin Aquatic has received a 2022 Dream Designs Award.
The new outdoor amenity, called The Reservoir, finished construction in May last year, delivering a range of new and engaging features for resort guests. Key attractions include a slide tower, adult pool, rentable cabanas, and a wet play facility for young vacationers. This project also featured the first lazy river to be installed at a Ritz-Carlton property, measuring 630-foot-long, as well as the chain’s first raft slide.
Martin Aquatic president and creative director Josh Martin says: “As a brand-first for The Ritz-Carlton, the idea of a ‘waterpark’ was a hurdle for the project team to overcome. The design needed to find the right balance of the scale of slides, creating attractive elements that could still appear sophisticated and elegant, while also delivering fun and excitement for all members of the family.”
A varied resort offering
Ritz-Carlton wanted a poolscape that was accessible to all family members, whilst reflecting and maintaining the luxury style that its patrons expect. As the second Ritz-Carlton property in the area, it was decided that the poolscape at the Golf Resort shouldn’t directly compete with the beachfront property, so it would be designed to appeal to families in a different style.
“The owners sought to create a destination that people would want to visit and increase their length of stay, but with a waterpark experience that delivered the same luxury that guests expected at the Ritz-Carlton. The attractive colour scheme of cool blues and stark white does not detract from the hotel’s ambience, but enhances it in a crisp, modern way.”
By using advanced simulation technology in the form of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling, Martin Aquatic was able to develop an engineered design that meticulously mapped the lazy river’s movement, offering a cost-effective solution without having to sacrifice quality.
Martin Aquatic recently appointed Matt Kent as its new VP for business development, as the company looks to drive new connections with prospective clients and ventures.
